Finding Dory (2016)

I, like many others my age, was ready to push over children at the release of Finding Dory, the long awaited sequel to Finding Nemo (2003).
Finding Dory put a different spin on the hugely popular Finding Nemo, and like many other Pixar Movies, tugs at the heartstrings of viewers. The movie successfully used advanced technology to create the highly emotive faces of the wide-eyed characters in conjunction with the voicing talent of Ellen De Generes, Ed O’Neill and Albert Brooks.

Dory, living with Marlin and Nemo, has flash backs to her childhood where we see her loving parents supporting Dory as best they can. Dory, as you may remember from Finding Nemo suffers from short-term memory loss. The gang are on a mission to find Dory’s parents which leads them to the Marine Centre.

While the film certainly has redeeming features, its not up there with the Pixar greats and certainly not up there with the original Finding Nemo, earning its place on this list of overrated films. The underlining story to ‘believe in yourself’ is repeated so many times its almost loses meaning. Additionally the ending is a rather farfetched.

The 14 year anticipation for the release has contributed to its success, despite the mediocre trailer. Finding Dory demonstrates significant advances in CGI which it has on Finding Nemo, however Finding Dory is effectively a reworking of the first.

2.5/5

  1. This is a very cute movie. Even I watched it with my kids. There are a very few things that I like to watch with my kids. Recently, I found shows by Andy Yeatman on Netflix and I am planning to watch it with them. These are not only entertaining but very knowledgeable as well.
